Which toothpaste should you buy for your child?

If you’re a parent you already know what a daunting task it is to make your children brush their teeth everyday and that too twice a day.

But it doesn’t have to be that ways! We all know that children these days are smart yet choosy. They are picky about the clothes they wear, the toys they play with and the food they eat. In the same way they might have a liking for certain flavored tooth pastes because of their sensitive taste buds. They might prefer mild fruity tastes over strong tasting ones. It is quite usual for your child to prefer a bubblegum flavor, or a melon flavor, or strawberry flavored toothpaste over a strong minty one. Try choosing one of these yummy flavors the next time you are out doing your weekly groceries and I am sure it will make a difference.

Apart from that your child might have a favorite cartoon character they adore. Kid’s toothpastes these days have plenty of characters associated with them. For example some of the patients I see tell me they are fond of Hello kitty while others love My Little pony or the Barbie toothpaste. So keep this in mind as well as this can really help in encouraging your child to brush better and more often. However, make sure the toothpaste you buy is fluoridated as fluoride strengthens the teeth and helps in preventing holes or cavities in your child’s precious teeth.

Fluoride toothpastes are recommended by your Pediatric Dentist depending on the age of your child. The amount of fluoride your child needs varies depending on the overall health and quality of their teeth and whether they are at an increased risk of getting tooth decay. Besides brushing twice a day there are other ways to maintain your child’s beautiful smile. First and foremost make sure you take your child to the Pediatric dentist by their 1st birthday for an oral health checkup where the Pediatric Dentist can advise you how to brush their new milk teeth. Thereafter make sure that your child visits a Pediatric dentist every 6 months. This is to ensure that all your child's teeth are healthy and free of any decay. Your Pediatric Dentist can also advise if your child requires any additional fluoride treatment soon. If you would like to know more on how to decide what toothpaste to get for your child please leave me a comment or contact me on 065242550 and I would be glad to help.
